English Translation
Abdullah ibn Muhammad al-Azdi informed us, Ishaq ibn Ibrahim narrated to us, Marhum ibn Abd al-Aziz narrated to us, Abu Imran al-Jawni narrated to us from Abdullah ibn al-Samit from Abu Dharr who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) rode a donkey and made me ride behind him, then he said: "O Abu Dharr, what would you do if severe famine afflicted the people until you were unable to rise from your bed to go to your mosque?" He said: Allah and His Messenger know best. He said: "Remain chaste." He said: "O Abu Dharr, what would you do if severe death afflicted the people until a house (burial place) would cost a slave?" He said: Allah and His Messenger know best. He said: "Be patient. O Abu Dharr, what would you do if people killed one another until the stones of al-Zayt (a place in Medina) were submerged in blood?" He said: Allah and His Messenger know best. He said: "Remain in your house and lock your door." He said: "What if I am not left alone?" He said: "Then go to those whom you belong to and be with them." He said: Should I take my weapon? He said: "Then you would share in their deed. But if you fear that the gleam of the sword would terrify you, then put the edge of your garment over your face so that he bears your sin and his own sin."
