أَخْبَرَنَا عُمَرُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الْهَمْدَانِيُّ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا بُنْدَارٌ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ عَنِ الْعَلَاءِ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَ «أَتَدْرُونَ مَا الْغِيبَةُ؟ » قَالُوا اللَّهُ وَرَسُولُهُ أَعْلَمُ قَالَ «أَنْ تَذْكُرَ أَخَاكَ بِمَا فِيهِ» قَالَ أَرَأَيْتَ إِنْ كَانَ فِي أَخِي مَا ذَكَرْتُ؟ قَالَ «إِنْ كَانَ فِيهِ مَا ذَكَرْتَ فَقَدِ اغْتَبْتَهُ وَإِنْ لَمْ يَكُنْ فِيهِ مَا ذَكَرْتَ فَقَدْ بَهَتَّهُ»
English Translation
Al-Hasan ibn Sufyan narrated to us, Muhammad ibn Abd Allah ibn Numayr narrated to us, my father narrated to us, al-Amash narrated to us from Shaqiq, from Masruq, from Abd Allah (may Allah be pleased with him) who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: «Drinking wine is the root of all evil; whoever drinks it, his prayer will not be accepted for forty days, and if he dies while it is in his belly, he will die the death of ignorance.»
