أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ قُتَيْبَةَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا حَرْمَلَةُ بْنُ يَحْيَى قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ وَهْبٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي مُعَاوِيَةُ بْنُ صَالِحٍ عَنْ رَبِيعَةَ بْنِ يَزِيدَ عَنْ مُسْلِمِ بْنِ قَرَظَةَ عَنْ عَوْفِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ الْأَشْجَعِيِّ قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ «خِيَارُكُمْ وَخِيَارُ أَئِمَّتِكُمُ الَّذِينَ تُحِبُّونَهُمْ وَيُحِبُّونَكُمْ وَيُصَلُّونَ عَلَيْكُمْ وَتُصَلُّونَ عَلَيْهِمْ وَشِرَارُكُمْ وَشِرَارُ أَئِمَّتِكُمُ الَّذِينَ تُبْغِضُونَهُمْ وَيُبْغِضُونَكُمْ وَتَلْعَنُونَهُمْ وَيَلْعَنُونَكُمْ» قِيلَ أَفَلَا نُنَابِذُهُمْ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ؟ قَالَ «لَا مَا أَقَامُوا الصَّلَوَاتِ الْخَمْسَ أَلَا وَمَنْ لَهُ وَالٍ فَيَرَاهُ يَأْتِي شَيْئًا مِنْ مَعْصِيَةِ اللَّهِ فَلْيَكْرَهْ مَا يَأْتِي مِنْ مَعْصِيَةِ اللَّهِ وَلَا يَنْزِعْ يَدًا مِنْ طَاعَتِهِ»
English Translation
Abu Khalifah narrated to us, saying: Musaddad narrated to us, saying: Yahya bin Sa'id narrated to us from Shu'bah from Muhammad bin Ziyad, who said: I heard Abu Hurairah narrating from the Prophet (peace be upon him) that he said: "The imam is appointed only to be followed. When he says the takbir, say the takbir, and when he bows, bow, and when he says: 'Allah hears whoever praises Him,' say: 'O Allah, to You is the praise,' and when he prostrates, prostrate, and if he prays standing, pray standing, and if he prays sitting, pray sitting."
