أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو يَعْلَى قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ الْجَعْدِ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنَا شُعْبَةُ عَنْ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ بْنِ صُهَيْبٍ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ أَنَسَ بْنَ مَالِكٍ يَقُولُ مَاتَ رَجُلٌ فَمَرُّوا بِجَنَازَتِهِ عَلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَأَثْنَوْا عَلَيْهَا شَرًّا فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ «وَجَبَتْ» وَمَرُّوا بِأُخْرَى فَأَثْنَوْا عَلَيْهَا خَيْرًا فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ «وَجَبَتْ» فَسَأَلَهُ عُمَرُ عَنْ ذَلِكَ فَقَالَ «أَنْتُمْ شُهُودُ اللَّهِ فِي الْأَرْضِ»
English Translation
Hadrat Anas ibn Malik (may Allah be well pleased with him) narrated: A man died and they passed with his funeral before the Beloved Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him). People spoke ill of him, and the Beloved Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) stated: "It has become obligatory." Then they passed with another funeral and people spoke well of it, and the Beloved Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) stated: "It has become obligatory." Hadrat 'Umar (may Allah be well pleased with him) asked him about that, and he stated: "You are the witnesses of Allah on earth."
Urdu Translation
حضرت انس بن مالک رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ سے روایت ہے: ایک آدمی فوت ہوا اور لوگ اس کا جنازہ لے کر نبی کریم صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم کے سامنے سے گزرے۔ لوگوں نے اس کی برائی کی تو نبی کریم صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم نے ارشاد فرمایا: "واجب ہو گئی۔" پھر دوسرا جنازہ گزرا تو لوگوں نے اس کی اچھائی بیان کی۔ نبی کریم صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم نے ارشاد فرمایا: "واجب ہو گئی۔" حضرت عمر رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ نے اس بارے میں پوچھا تو آپ نے ارشاد فرمایا: "تم زمین پر اللہ کے گواہ ہو۔"
