Hadrat Hittan ibn Abdullah al-Raqashi narrated that Abu Musa al-Ash'ari led his companions in prayer. When he sat in his prayer, a man from the people said: Has the prayer been established with righteousness and zakah? When al-Ash'ari finished his prayer, he turned to the people and said: Which one of you said such-and-such words? The people fell silent. He said: Perhaps you, O Hittan, said it? He said: By Allah, I did not say it, and I feared you would rebuke me for it. Then a man from the people said: I said it, and I intended nothing but good by it. Al-Ash'ari said: Do you not know what you say in your prayer? The Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) addressed us and taught us our Sunnah and explained our prayer to us. He stated: "When the iqamah is called for the prayer, straighten your rows. Let one of you lead. When he says the takbir, say the takbir. When he says 'Wa la al-dallin,' say Amin, and Allah will answer you. Then when he says the takbir and bows, say the takbir and bow, for the imam bows before you and raises before you." The Prophet of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) stated: "That makes up for that. And when he says 'Sami' Allahu liman hamidah,' say 'Allahumma Rabbana lakal hamd,' for verily Allah, the Majestic and Exalted, has said on the tongue of His Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him): 'Allah hears whoever praises Him.' Then when he says the takbir and prostrates, say the takbir and prostrate, for the imam prostrates before you and raises before you." The Prophet of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) stated: "That makes up for that. When you are in the sitting position, let the first words of each of you be: 'At-tahiyyatu as-salawatu lillah, as-salamu alayka ayyuhan-nabiyyu wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh, as-salamu alayna wa ala ibadillahis-salihin, ashhadu an la ilaha illallah wa anna Muhammadan abduhu wa rasuluh.'"

حضرت حطان بن عبد اللہ رقاشی سے روایت ہے کہ ابو موسیٰ اشعری نے اپنے ساتھیوں کو نماز پڑھائی۔ جب وہ نماز میں بیٹھے تو لوگوں میں سے ایک شخص نے کہا: کیا نماز نیکی اور زکوٰۃ کے ساتھ مقرر کی گئی ہے؟ جب اشعری نے نماز پوری کی تو لوگوں کی طرف متوجہ ہو کر فرمایا: تم میں سے کس نے ایسی بات کہی؟ لوگ خاموش رہے۔ فرمایا: شاید تم نے کہا ہے اے حطان؟ انہوں نے کہا: اللہ کی قسم! میں نے نہیں کہا اور مجھے ڈر تھا کہ آپ مجھے اس پر ڈانٹیں گے۔ پھر ایک شخص نے کہا: میں نے کہا تھا اور میرا ارادہ بھلائی کے سوا کچھ نہ تھا۔ اشعری نے فرمایا: کیا تم نہیں جانتے کہ تم اپنی نماز میں کیا کہتے ہو؟ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم نے ہمیں خطاب فرمایا، ہماری سنت سکھائی اور ہماری نماز بیان فرمائی۔ ارشاد فرمایا: "جب نماز کی اقامت کہی جائے تو اپنی صفیں سیدھی کرو اور تم میں سے ایک امامت کرائے۔ جب وہ تکبیر کہے تو تکبیر کہو، جب وہ 'ولا الضالین' کہے تو آمین کہو، اللہ تمہاری دعا قبول فرمائے گا۔ پھر جب وہ تکبیر کہے اور رکوع کرے تو تکبیر کہو اور رکوع کرو، کیونکہ امام تم سے پہلے رکوع کرتا ہے اور تم سے پہلے سر اٹھاتا ہے۔" نبی اللہ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم نے ارشاد فرمایا: "وہ اس کے بدلے میں ہے۔ اور جب وہ 'سمع اللہ لمن حمدہ' کہے تو 'اللہم ربنا لک الحمد' کہو، کیونکہ اللہ جل و علا نے اپنے نبی صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم کی زبان پر فرمایا: 'سمع اللہ لمن حمدہ'۔ پھر جب وہ تکبیر کہے اور سجدہ کرے تو تکبیر کہو اور سجدہ کرو، کیونکہ امام تم سے پہلے سجدہ کرتا ہے اور تم سے پہلے سر اٹھاتا ہے۔" نبی اللہ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم نے ارشاد فرمایا: "وہ اس کے بدلے میں ہے۔ جب بیٹھنے کا وقت ہو تو تم میں سے ہر ایک کی پہلی بات یہ ہو: 'التحیات الصلوات للہ، السلام علیک ایہا النبی ورحمۃ اللہ وبرکاتہ، السلام علینا وعلیٰ عباد اللہ الصالحین، اشہد ان لا الہ الا اللہ وان محمدا عبدہ ورسولہ۔'"
