Hadrat Abu Hurairah (may Allah be well pleased with him) narrated: The Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) sent cavalry towards Najd. They brought a man from Banu Hanifah called Thumamah ibn Uthal, the chief of the people of Yamamah. They tied him to a pillar of the mosque. The Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) came out to him and asked: 'What do you have to say, O Thumamah?' He said: 'I have good news, O Muhammad. If you kill me, you kill a man of noble blood. If you show favor, you show favor to one who is grateful. And if you want wealth, ask and you shall be given what you wish.' The Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) left him until the next day, then asked the same. He gave the same reply. This happened again on the third day. Then the Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) stated: 'Release Thumamah.' So he went to a palm grove near the mosque and took a bath. Then he entered the mosque and said: 'I bear witness that there is no god but Allah and that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah. O Muhammad, by Allah, there was no face on earth more hateful to me than yours, but now your face has become the most beloved of all faces to me. By Allah, there was no religion more hateful to me than yours, but now your religion has become the most beloved of all religions to me. By Allah, there was no land more hateful to me than yours, but now your land has become the most beloved of all lands to me. Your cavalry captured me while I was intending to perform Umrah, so what do you advise?' The Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) gave him glad tidings and commanded him to perform Umrah. When he arrived in Makkah, someone said to him: 'Have you apostatized?' He said: 'No, rather I have accepted Islam with Muhammad, the Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him). By Allah, not a grain of wheat shall come to you from Yamamah until the Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) permits it.'
Urdu Translation
حضرت ابو ہریرہ رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ سے روایت ہے: رسول اللہ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم نے نجد کی طرف گھڑسوار بھیجے جو بنی حنیفہ کے ایک شخص ثمامہ بن اثال کو لائے جو اہلِ یمامہ کے سردار تھے۔ انہیں مسجد کے ستون سے باندھ دیا گیا۔ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم ان کے پاس تشریف لے گئے اور ارشاد فرمایا: اے ثمامہ! تمہارے پاس کیا ہے؟ کہا: اے محمد! میرے پاس خیر ہے۔ اگر قتل کرو گے تو خون والے کو قتل کرو گے، اگر احسان کرو گے تو شکرگزار پر، اور اگر مال چاہتے ہو تو مانگو جو چاہو۔ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم نے انہیں اگلے دن تک چھوڑا، پھر پوچھا: اے ثمامہ! تمہارے پاس کیا ہے؟ انہوں نے وہی جواب دیا۔ تیسرے دن بھی ایسا ہی ہوا۔ پھر رسول اللہ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم نے ارشاد فرمایا: ثمامہ کو چھوڑ دو۔ وہ مسجد کے قریب کھجوروں کے باغ کی طرف گئے اور غسل کیا، پھر مسجد میں آئے اور کہا: میں گواہی دیتا ہوں کہ اللہ کے سوا کوئی معبود نہیں اور محمد اللہ کے رسول ہیں۔ اے محمد! اللہ کی قسم، زمین پر کوئی چہرہ مجھے آپ کے چہرے سے زیادہ ناپسند نہیں تھا لیکن اب آپ کا چہرہ مجھے سب چہروں سے زیادہ پیارا ہے۔ اللہ کی قسم، کوئی دین مجھے آپ کے دین سے زیادہ ناپسند نہیں تھا لیکن اب آپ کا دین مجھے سب دینوں سے زیادہ پیارا ہے۔ اللہ کی قسم، کوئی شہر مجھے آپ کے شہر سے زیادہ ناپسند نہیں تھا لیکن اب آپ کا شہر مجھے سب شہروں سے زیادہ پیارا ہے۔ آپ کے گھڑسواروں نے مجھے پکڑا تھا جبکہ میں عمرہ کا ارادہ رکھتا تھا، آپ کی کیا رائے ہے؟ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم نے انہیں خوشخبری دی اور عمرہ کرنے کا حکم دیا۔ جب مکہ پہنچے تو کسی نے کہا: کیا تم مرتد ہو گئے؟ کہا: نہیں بلکہ میں نے محمد رسول اللہ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم کے ساتھ اسلام قبول کیا ہے۔ اللہ کی قسم! یمامہ سے تمہارے پاس ایک دانہ گندم بھی نہیں آئے گا جب تک رسول اللہ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم اجازت نہ دیں۔
