English Translation
Abu Qatadah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Prophet (peace be upon him) would recite Surah al-Fatihah and two other surahs in the first two rak'ahs of Dhuhr prayer. He would lengthen the recitation in the first rak'ah and shorten it in the second, and sometimes a verse would be audible to them. In Asr prayer as well, he would recite Surah al-Fatihah and two surahs — longer in the first rak'ah and shorter in the second. And in Fajr prayer, he would also recite a longer surah in the first rak'ah and a shorter one in the second.

سیدنا ابوقتادہ رضی اللہ عنہ کہتے ہیں کہنبی کریمصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمنماز ظہر کی پہلی دو رکعتوں میں سورۃ الفاتحہ اور (کوئی اور) دو سورتیں پڑھتے تھے۔ پہلی رکعت میں لمبی قرآت کرتے تھے اور دوسری میں (اس سے) چھوٹی سورت پڑھتے تھے اور کبھی کبھی کوئی آیت ہمیں سنا دیتے تھے اور عصر کی نماز میں سورۃ الفاتحہ اور کوئی دو سورتیں، پہلی رکعت میں لمبی (سورت پڑھتے تھے) اور دوسری میں اس سے چھوٹی (سورت) اور صبح کی نماز کی پہلی رکعت میں (بھی) بڑی سورت پڑھتے تھے اور دوسری رکعت میں (اس سے) چھوٹی سورت پڑھتے تھے۔[مختصر صحيح بخاري/حدیث: 437]
