English Translation
Abu Sa'id al-Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) went out on the day of Eid al-Adha or Eid al-Fitr and passed by the women. He said: 'O women! Give charity, for I have seen that you form the majority of the inhabitants of Hellfire.' They asked: 'Why is that, O Messenger of Allah?' He replied: 'You curse frequently and are ungrateful to your husbands. I have not seen anyone more deficient in intellect and religion yet more capable of swaying the mind of a resolute man than you.' The women asked: 'O Messenger of Allah, what is the deficiency in our religion and intellect?' He said: 'Is not the testimony of a woman equal to half that of a man? That is the deficiency in her intellect. And does she not spend nights without praying and break her fast during Ramadan (due to menstruation)? That is the deficiency in her religion.'"
Urdu Translation
سیدنا ابو سعید خدری رضی اللہ عنہ کہتے ہیں کہرسول اللہصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمعیدالاضحی یا عیدالفطر کے دن نکلے اور (عیدگاہ میں) عورتوں (کی جماعت) پر گزرے تو آپ نے فرمایا:”اے عورتو! صدقہ دیا کرو اس لیے کہ میں نے تمہیں (معراج میں) زیادہ دوزخ میں دیکھا ہے۔“وہ بولیں کہ یا رسول اللہ! یہ کیوں؟ آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمنے فرمایا:”تم لعن طعن کثرت سے کرتی ہو اور شوہر کی ناشکری کرتی ہو اور میں نے تم سے زیادہ کسی کو باوجود عقل اور دین میں ناقص ہونے کے، پختہ رائے مرد کی عقل کا (اڑا) لیجانے والا نہیں دیکھا۔“عورتوں نے کہا یا رسول اللہ! ہمارے دین میں اور ہماری عقل میں کیا نقصان (کمی) ہے؟ تو آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمنے فرمایا:”عورت کی گواہی (شرعاً) مرد کی گواہی کے نصف کے برابر نہیں ہے؟“انھوں نے کہا ہاں ہے۔ آپ نے فرمایا:”یہی اس کی عقل کا نقصان ہے۔ کیا ایسا نہیں ہے کہ جب عورت حائضہ ہوتی ہے نہ نماز پڑھتی ہے اور نہ روزہ رکھتی ہے؟“انھوں نے کہا ہاں۔ آپ نے فرمایا:”پس یہی اس کے دین کا نقصان ہے۔“[مختصر صحيح بخاري/حدیث: 210]
