Hadrat Anas bin Malik (may Allah be well pleased with him) narrates that when it was the day of the battle of Hunain, the tribes of Hawazin and Ghatafan and others, along with their animals and offspring and wives, came to fight against the Beloved Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him). The Beloved Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) had with him ten thousand men and some of the Tulaqa. The companions fled, leaving the Beloved Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) alone. The Beloved Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) then made two calls, neither of which he mixed with the other. He turned right and called, 'O the group of Ansar!' They replied, 'Labbaik, O Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him)! Rejoice, for we are with you!' Then he turned left and called, 'O the group of Ansar!' They replied, 'Labbaik, O Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him)! Rejoice, for we are with you!' He was riding his white mule, so he dismounted and declared, 'I am the servant of Allah and His Messenger.' The pagans were then defeated, and he obtained great war booty which he distributed among the Muhajirin and the Tulaqa and did not give the Ansar anything. The Ansar submitted, 'When there is difficulty we are called, but the booty is given to others?' He declared, 'Are you not pleased that the people take the sheep and camels while you take the Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) with you?' The Ansar submitted, 'We are pleased.' The Beloved Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) declared, 'If the people were to walk in one valley and the Ansar in a mountain pass, I would walk in the mountain pass of the Ansar.'

حضرت انس بن مالک رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ فرماتے ہیں کہ جب حنین کا دن ہوا تو قبیلہ ہوازن اور غطفان وغیرہ اپنے مویشی اور بال بچوں کے ساتھ جنگ کے لیے نکلے۔ نبی کریم صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم کے ساتھ دس ہزار لشکر تھا اور فتح مکہ میں چھوڑے جانے والے (طلقاء) بھی ساتھ تھے۔ جب سب نے پیٹھ دکھائی اور آپ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم اکیلے رہ گئے تو آپ نے دو مرتبہ پکارا: ایک مرتبہ دائیں جانب متوجہ ہو کر فرمایا: اے گروہ انصار! انہوں نے عرض کیا: لبیک یا رسول اللہ! بشارت ہو، ہم آپ کے ساتھ ہیں۔ پھر بائیں جانب متوجہ ہو کر فرمایا: اے گروہ انصار! انہوں نے عرض کیا: لبیک یا رسول اللہ! بشارت ہو، ہم آپ کے ساتھ ہیں۔ آپ اپنی سفید خچر پر سوار تھے، اتر کر آگے بڑھے اور فرمایا: میں اللہ کا بندہ اور اس کا رسول ہوں۔ پھر مشرکین شکست کھا گئے۔ آپ نے بہت بڑی غنیمت حاصل فرمائی جو مہاجرین اور طلقاء میں تقسیم فرمائی اور انصار کو کچھ نہ دیا۔ انصار نے عرض کیا: جب مشکل آئی تو ہمیں بلایا اور غنیمت دوسروں کو دی؟ آپ نے ارشاد فرمایا: کیا تم اس پر راضی نہیں ہو کہ لوگ بکریاں اور اونٹ لے جائیں اور تم رسول اللہ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم کو لے کر جاؤ؟ انصار نے عرض کیا: ہم راضی ہیں۔ نبی کریم صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم نے ارشاد فرمایا: اگر لوگ ایک وادی میں چلیں اور انصار ایک گھاٹی میں چلیں تو میں انصار کی گھاٹی میں چلوں گا۔
