Arabic (Original)
وَقَالَ اللَّيْثُ حَدَّثَنِي جَعْفَرُ بْنُ رَبِيعَةَ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ هُرْمُزَ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ـ رضى الله عنه ـ عَنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم أَنَّهُ ذَكَرَ رَجُلاً مِنْ بَنِي إِسْرَائِيلَ ـ وَسَاقَ الْحَدِيثَ ـ "فَخَرَجَ يَنْظُرُ لَعَلَّ مَرْكَبًا قَدْ جَاءَ بِمَالِهِ، فَإِذَا هُوَ بِالْخَشَبَةِ فَأَخَذَهَا لأَهْلِهِ حَطَبًا، فَلَمَّا نَشَرَهَا وَجَدَ الْمَالَ وَالصَّحِيفَةَ ".
English Translation
It is narrated by Hadrat Abu Huraira (may Allah be well pleased with him) that the Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) mentioned a man from the Children of Israel — then the full narration was related (as mentioned previously) — that (the creditor) went out looking, hoping a vessel might have brought his money. He found a piece of wood and took it home as firewood. When he sawed it, he found the money and the letter inside.
Urdu Translation
حضرت ابوہریرہ رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ سے روایت ہے کہ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم نے بنی اسرائیل کے ایک شخص کا ذکر فرمایا — پھر پوری حدیث بیان ہوئی (جو اس سے پہلے گزر چکی ہے) — کہ (قرض دینے والا) باہر یہ دیکھنے نکلا کہ شاید کوئی کشتی اس کا مال لے کر آئی ہو۔ اچانک اسے ایک لکڑی ملی جسے اس نے اپنے گھر کے ایندھن کے لیے اٹھا لیا۔ جب اس نے اسے چیرا تو اس میں رقم اور خط پایا۔
