حَدَّثَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ، حَدَّثَنَا اللَّيْثُ، عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ، أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ أَبَا هُرَيْرَةَ ـ رضى الله عنهما ـ يَقُولُ بَعَثَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم خَيْلاً قِبَلَ نَجْدٍ، فَجَاءَتْ بِرَجُلٍ مِنْ بَنِي حَنِيفَةَ يُقَالُ لَهُ ثُمَامَةُ بْنُ أُثَالٍ سَيِّدُ أَهْلِ الْيَمَامَةِ، فَرَبَطُوهُ بِسَارِيَةٍ مِنْ سَوَارِي الْمَسْجِدِ، فَخَرَجَ إِلَيْهِ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم قَالَ " مَا عِنْدَكَ يَا ثُمَامَةُ ". قَالَ عِنْدِي يَا مُحَمَّدُ خَيْرٌ. فَذَكَرَ الْحَدِيثَ قَالَ " أَطْلِقُوا ثُمَامَةَ ".
English Translation
It is narrated by Hadrat Abu Huraira (may Allah be well pleased with him) that the Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) sent a cavalry towards Najd. They captured and brought a man from Banu Hanifa named Thumama bin Uthal, the chief of the people of Yamama. He was tied to one of the pillars of the Masjid an-Nabawi. The Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) came out to him and stated: 'What do you have (to say), O Thumama?' He said: 'O Muhammad (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him)! I have good (to say).' (The full narration was then mentioned, at the end of which) he (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) stated: 'Release Thumama!'
Urdu Translation
حضرت ابوہریرہ رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ سے روایت ہے کہ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم نے سواروں کا ایک لشکر نجد کی طرف بھیجا۔ وہ بنو حنیفہ کے ایک شخص کو پکڑ لائے جس کا نام ثمامہ بن اثال تھا اور جو اہلِ یمامہ کا سردار تھا۔ اسے مسجدِ نبوی کے ایک ستون سے باندھ دیا گیا۔ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم تشریف لائے اور ارشاد فرمایا: اے ثمامہ! تمہارا کیا خیال ہے؟ اس نے کہا: اے محمد (صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم)! میرے پاس بھلائی ہے۔ پھر پوری حدیث بیان ہوئی (جس کے آخر میں) آپ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم نے ارشاد فرمایا: ثمامہ کو چھوڑ دو!
