حَدَّثَنَا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ، قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ الأَنْصَارِيُّ، قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّى، عَنْ ثُمَامَةَ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ أَنَسٍ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ، أَنَّ عُمَرَ بْنَ الْخَطَّابِ ـ رضى الله عنه ـ كَانَ إِذَا قَحَطُوا اسْتَسْقَى بِالْعَبَّاسِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْمُطَّلِبِ فَقَالَ اللَّهُمَّ إِنَّا كُنَّا نَتَوَسَّلُ إِلَيْكَ بِنَبِيِّنَا فَتَسْقِينَا وَإِنَّا نَتَوَسَّلُ إِلَيْكَ بِعَمِّ نَبِيِّنَا فَاسْقِنَا. قَالَ فَيُسْقَوْنَ.
English Translation
It is narrated from Hadrat Anas bin Malik (may Allah be well pleased with him) that whenever drought struck during the time of Hadrat Umar bin al-Khattab (may Allah be well pleased with him), he would seek rain through the intercession of Hadrat Abbas bin Abdul Muttalib (may Allah be well pleased with him) and would say: 'O Allah! We used to seek Your favor through the intercession of our Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) and You would grant us rain. Now we seek Your favor through the intercession of our Prophet's uncle, so grant us rain.' Hadrat Anas (may Allah be well pleased with him) stated: And so it would rain abundantly.
Urdu Translation
حضرت انس بن مالک رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ سے روایت ہے کہ حضرت عمر بن خطاب رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ کے دور میں جب قحط پڑتا تو آپ حضرت عباس بن عبدالمطلب رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ کے وسیلے سے بارش کی دعا فرماتے اور کہتے: اے اللہ! ہم پہلے تیرے حضور اپنے نبی (صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم) کا وسیلہ لایا کرتے تھے تو تو بارش فرماتا تھا اور اب ہم اپنے نبی (صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم) کے چچا کا وسیلہ لاتے ہیں، تو ہمیں سیراب فرما۔ حضرت انس رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ فرماتے ہیں کہ چنانچہ خوب بارش ہوتی۔
