حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّى قَالَ أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ الْوَهَّابِ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْمَجِيدِ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنَا عَنْبَسَةُ بْنُ أَبِي رَائِطَةَ عَنِ الْحَسَنِ عَنْ عُثْمَانَ بْنِ أَبِي الْعَاصِ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ الصِّيَامُ جُنَّةٌ يَسْتَجِنُّ بِهَا الْعَبْدُ مِنَ النَّارِ وَهَذَا الْحَدِيثُ قَدْ ذَكَرْنَا نَحْوَ كَلَامِهِ عَنْ عُثْمَانَ وَلَكِنْ حَدِيثُ عُثْمَانَ الْأَوَّلِ الصَّوْمُ جُنَّةٌ كَجُنَّةِ أَحَدِكُمْ مِنَ الْقِتَالِ وَفِي هَذَا الْحَدِيثِ يَسْتَجِنُّ بِهَا الْعَبْدُ مِنَ النَّارِ فَذَكَرْنَا ذَلِكَ لِاخْتِلَافِ اللَّفْظِ فِيهِ
English Translation
Muhammad ibn al-Muthanna narrated to us, he said: 'Abd al-Wahhab ibn 'Abd al-Majid informed us, he said: 'Anbasah ibn Abi Ra'itah informed us, from al-Hasan, from 'Uthman ibn Abi al-'As (may Allah be pleased with him) who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: 'Fasting is a shield with which the servant protects himself from the Fire.' We have already mentioned a similar statement from 'Uthman, but the first hadith of 'Uthman says 'Fasting is a shield like the shield of one of you from battle,' while in this hadith it says 'the servant protects himself with it from the Fire.' We mentioned this due to the difference in wording.
