English Translation
Abu al-Husayn ibn al-Fadl al-Qattan informed us in Baghdad: Abu Amr ibn al-Sammak reported to us: Muhammad ibn al-Faraj al-Azraq narrated to us: Musaddad narrated to us: Abu Awanah narrated to us, from Simak, from Jabir ibn Samurah (may Allah be pleased with him), who said: A mule — or he said a she-camel — died in the possession of a man, and he came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) to seek his ruling. Jabir claimed that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said to its owner: "Do you not have what suffices you without it?" He said: "No." He said: "Then go, eat it."
