أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو الْحَسَنِ عَلِيُّ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ السَّقَّاءِ وَأَبُو الْحَسَنِ عَلِيُّ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الْمُقْرِئُ قَالَا أنبأ الْحَسَنُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ إِسْحَاقَ ثنا يُوسُفُ بْنُ يَعْقُوبَ ثنا عَمْرُو بْنُ مَرْزُوقٍ ثنا زُهَيْرٌ عَنْ مُطَرِّفٍ عَنْ عَامِرٍ عَنْ أَبِي جُحَيْفَةَ قَالَ قُلْتُ لِعَلِيٍّ ؓ يَا أَمِيرَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ هَلْ عِنْدَكُمْ مِنَ الْوَحْيِ شَيْءٌ؟ قَالَ لَا وَالَّذِي فَلَقَ الْحَبَّةَ وَبَرَأَ النَّسَمَةَ مَا أَعْلَمُهُ إِلَّا فَهْمًا يُعْطِيهِ اللهُ ﷻ رَجُلًا وَمَا فِي الصَّحِيفَةِ قُلْتُ وَمَا فِي الصَّحِيفَةِ؟ قَالَ الْعَقْلُ وَفِكَاكُ الْأَسِيرِ وَلَا يُقْتَلُ مُؤْمِنٌ بِقَتْلِ مُشْرِكٍ وَقَالَ زُهَيْرٌ فَقُلْتُ لِمُطَرِّفٍ وَمَا فِكَاكُ الْأَسِيرِ؟ قَالَ أَنْ يُفَكَّ مِنَ الْعَدُوِّ وَجَرَتْ بِذَلِكَ السُّنَّةُ قَالَ مُطَرِّفٌ الْعَقْلُ الْمَعْقُلَةُ
English Translation
Abu Juhayfah said: I said to Ali (may Allah be pleased with him): O Commander of the Faithful, do you have any revelation besides what is in the Quran? He said: No, by the One who split the seed and created the soul, I know of nothing except an understanding that Allah gives to a person, and what is in this document. I asked: What is in the document? He said: The blood money, the freeing of prisoners, and that no believer shall be killed for killing a disbeliever. Zuhayr said: I asked Mutarrif: What is the freeing of prisoners? He said: That they be freed from the enemy, and the practice (Sunnah) has established this. Mutarrif said: Al-'aql means the blood money.
