English Translation
Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) sent Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) to lead the pilgrimage and commanded him to proclaim certain words. While Abu Bakr was stopping at a place on the road, he heard the bellowing of the Messenger of Allah's she-camel al-Qaswa. He came out alarmed, thinking it was the Messenger of Allah, but it was Ali (may Allah be pleased with him). Ali handed him a letter from the Messenger of Allah. Abu Bakr continued leading the pilgrimage and ordered Ali to proclaim those words. Ali stood and proclaimed during the middle of the days of Tashriq: Allah and His Messenger are free from every polytheist. Travel freely in the land for four months, and know that you cannot escape Allah. No polytheist shall perform pilgrimage after this year, no one shall circumambulate the House naked, and none shall enter Paradise except a believer. He would proclaim this, and when his voice became hoarse, Abu Hurayrah would stand and proclaim it.
