أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو سَعِيدِ بْنُ أَبِي عَمْرٍو ثنا أَبُو الْعَبَّاسِ الْأَصَمُّ أنبأ الْحَسَنُ بْنُ عَلِيِّ بْنِ عَفَّانَ ثنا يَحْيَى بْنُ آدَمَ ثنا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ عَيَّاشٍ عَنْ حُصَيْنِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ مَيْمُونٍ عَنْ عُمَرَ بْنِ الْخَطَّابِ ؓ أَنَّهُ قَالَ أُوصِي الْخَلِيفَةَ مِنْ بَعْدِي بِأَهْلِ الذِّمَّةِ خَيْرًا أَنْ يُوفِيَ لَهُمْ بِعَهْدِهِمْ وَأَنْ يُقَاتِلَ مِنْ وَرَائِهِمْ وَأَنْ لَا يُكَلَّفُوا فَوْقَ طَاقَتِهِمْ أَخْرَجَهُ الْبُخَارِيُّ فِي الصَّحِيحِ عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ يُونُسَ عَنْ أَبِي بَكْرِ بْنِ عَيَّاشٍ
English Translation
Abu Sa'id ibn Abi 'Amr informed us, Abu al-'Abbas al-Asamm narrated to us, al-Hasan ibn 'Ali ibn 'Affan narrated to us, Yahya ibn Adam narrated to us, Abu Bakr ibn 'Ayyash narrated to us from Husayn ibn 'Abd al-Rahman, from 'Amr ibn Maymun, from 'Umar ibn al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him), who said: I advise the caliph after me to treat the people of the covenant (dhimmah) well — to fulfill their covenant, to fight behind them (i.e., protect them), and not to burden them beyond their capacity. Al-Bukhari included it in his Sahih from Ahmad ibn Yunus, from Abu Bakr ibn 'Ayyash.
