أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو الْحُسَيْنِ بْنُ الْفَضْلِ الْقَطَّانُ أنبأ أَبُو عَمْرِو بْنُ السَّمَّاكِ ثنا عَبْدُ الْكَرِيمِ بْنُ الْهَيْثَمِ ثنا عَمْرُو بْنُ مَرْزُوقٍ ثنا شُعْبَةُ عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ هُنَيْدَةَ رَجُلٌ مِنْ خُزَاعَةَ قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ مَنْ يَأْخُذُ هَذَا السَّيْفَ بِحَقِّهِ؟ قَالَ فَقَالَ رَجُلٌ أَنَا قَالَ فَأَخَذَهُ فَلَمَّا لَقِيَ الْعَدُوَّ جَعَلَ يَقُولُ [البحر الرجز] إِنِّي امْرُؤٌ بَايَعَنِي خَلِيلِي وَنَحْنُ عِنْدَ أَسْفَلِ النَّخِيلِ أَنْ لَا أَقُومَ الدَّهْرَ فِي الْكُيُولِ أَضْرِبْ بِسَيْفِ اللهِ وَالرَّسُولِ زَادَ غَيْرُهُ فِيهِ فَقَاتَلَ حَتَّى قُتِلَ ؓ
English Translation
Abu al-Husayn ibn al-Fadl al-Qattan informed us, from Abu Amr ibn al-Sammak, from Abd al-Karim ibn al-Haytham, from Amr ibn Marzuq, from Shu'bah, from Abu Ishaq who said: I heard Hunaydah, a man from Khuza'ah, say: The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: Who will take this sword with its right? A man said: I will. He took it, and when he met the enemy, he chanted: I am a man whose beloved friend (the Prophet) made a pact with me, while we were at the foot of the palm trees, that I would never stand in the rear. I strike with the sword of Allah and His Messenger. Another version adds: He fought until he was killed (may Allah be pleased with him).
