أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو بَكْرٍ أَحْمَدُ بْنُ الْحَسَنِ الْقَاضِي وَأَبُو زَكَرِيَّا بْنُ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ الْمُزَكِّي قَالَا ثنا أَبُو الْعَبَّاسِ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَعْقُوبَ أنبأ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْحَكَمِ أنبأ ابْنُ وَهْبٍ أَخْبَرَنِي عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ عُمَرَ عَنْ نَافِعٍ أَنَّ عَبْدَ اللهِ بْنَ عُمَرَ ؓ قَالَ إِذَا سُئِلَ عَنِ الرَّجُلِ مِنْ أَهْلِ الْإِسْلَامِ يَأْخُذُ الْأَرْضَ مِنْ أَهْلِ الذِّمَّةِ بِمَا عَلَيْهَا مِنَ الْخَرَاجِ يَقُولُ لَا يَحِلُّ لِمُسْلِمٍ أَوْ لَا يَنْبَغِي لِمُسْلِمٍ أَنْ يَكْتُبَ عَلَى نَفْسِهِ الذُّلَّ وَالصَّغَارَ
English Translation
Abu Bakr Ahmad ibn al-Hasan the judge and Abu Zakariyya informed us from Abu al-Abbas, from Muhammad ibn Abdullah ibn Abd al-Hakam, from Ibn Wahb, from Abdullah ibn Umar, from Nafi' that Abdullah ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with him), when asked about a Muslim man taking land from dhimmis with its kharaj, would say: It is not permissible - or it is not befitting - for a Muslim to inscribe humiliation and degradation upon himself.
