English Translation
Abu Abdullah al-Hafiz informed us... from Sulaiman bin Amr bin al-Ahwas, who said: My father told me that he witnessed the Farewell Pilgrimage with the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him). He praised and glorified Allah, reminded and admonished, then said: Indeed, treat your women well, for they are captives with you. You have no right over them beyond that, unless they commit clear immorality. If they do, then abandon them in their beds and strike them but not severely. If they obey you, do not seek a way against them. Indeed, you have rights over your women and your women have rights over you. Your right over them is that they should not allow anyone you dislike on your furnishings, and their right over you is that you treat them well in clothing and food.
