حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْأَعْلَى عَنْ مَعْمَرٍ عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ عَنْ سَعِيدٍ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ يَتْرُكُونَ الْمَدِينَةَ عَلَى خَيْرِ مَا كَانَتْ عَلَيْهِ لَا يَغْشَاهَا إِلَّا الْعَوَافِي قَالَ يُرِيدُ عَوَافِيَ السِّبَاعِ وَالطَّيْرِ وَآخِرُ مَنْ يُحْشَرُ رَاعِيَانِ مِنْ مُزَيْنَةَ يَنْعِقَانِ لِغَنَمِهِمَا فَيَجِدَاهَا وُحُوشًا حَتَّى إِذَا بَلَغَا ثَنِيَّةَ الْوَدَاعِ حُشِرَا عَلَى وُجُوهِهِمَا أَوْ خَرَّا عَلَى وُجُوهِهِمَا.
English Translation
Abd al-A'la told us, from Ma'mar, from al-Zuhri, from Sa'id, from Abu Hurayrah, that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "They will leave Medina in the best state it has ever been, with none entering it except the scavenging beasts" - meaning the scavenging beasts and birds - "and the last to be gathered will be two shepherds from Muzaynah, calling out to their sheep, and they will find them turned wild, until, when they reach Thaniyyat al-Wada', they will be gathered upon their faces" - or, "they will fall upon their faces."
