English Translation
Muhammad ibn Fudayl told us, Mutarrif told us, from Abu al-Jahm, from Abu al-Radrad, from Abdullah ibn Mas'ud, who said: "I used to give the greeting of peace to the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, during the prayer, and he would return it to me. Then one day I greeted him, and he did not return it to me, and I felt disturbed about it. When he finished, I said: 'O Messenger of Allah, whenever I greeted you during prayer before, you would return my greeting.' He said: 'Indeed Allah, Mighty and Majestic, brings about in His affair whatever He wills.'"
