English Translation

Bishr ibn al-Mufaddal told us, he said Sa'd ibn Ishaq ibn Ka'b ibn Ujrah al-Ansari told us, from his paternal aunt Zaynab bint Ka'b, that Furay'ah bint Malik ibn Sinan, sister of Abu Sa'id al-Khudri, told her that her husband went out in pursuit of some workers of theirs, and they caught up with them at the edge of al-Qadum and killed him. News of his death reached her while she was in a house among the houses of the Ansar, far from the house of her own family, and she disliked observing the waiting period there. So she went to the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, and said, "O Messenger of Allah, news of my husband's death has reached me while I am in a house of the Ansar, far from the houses of my family. He left me only in a dwelling he did not own, and he did not leave me with maintenance to be spent on me, and I did not inherit any wealth from him. So if you see fit that I join my brothers and family, so that our affair may be together, that would be more beloved to me." So he permitted me to join my family, and I went out rejoicing at that, until, when I was in the chamber or the mosque, he called me - or ordered that I be called - and said to me, "What did you say?" So I repeated it to him, and he said, "Stay in the dwelling of your husband in which the news of his death reached you, until the decreed term is reached." She said: So I observed my waiting period there for four months and ten days.
