حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو نُعَيْمٍ حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ عَنْ حَبِيبِ بْنِ أَبِي ثَابِتٍ عَنِ الْقَاسِمِ بْنِ الْحَارِثِ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُتْبَةَ عَنْ أَبِي مَسْعُودٍ قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ لِقُرَيْشٍ إِنَّ هَذَا الْأَمْرَ لَا يَزَالُ فِيكُمْ وَأَنْتُمْ وُلَاتُهُ مَا لَمْ تُحْدِثُوا فَإِذَا فَعَلْتُمْ ذَلِكَ سَلَّطَ اللَّهُ عَلَيْكُمْ شِرَارَ خَلْقِهِ وَالْتَحَوْكُمْ كَمَا يُلْتَحَى الْقَضِيبُ.
English Translation
Abu Nu'aym narrated to us: Sufyan narrated to us, from Habib ibn Abi Thabit, from al-Qasim ibn al-Harith, from Abdullah ibn Utba, from Abu Mas'ud, who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said to Quraysh: "This authority will remain among you, and you will be its holders, as long as you do not introduce new practices; when you do that, Allah will empower over you the worst of His creation, and they will strip you as a green branch is stripped."
