English Translation
Yazid ibn Harun told us, Salim ibn Hayyan informed us, Abu Ghalib told us, he said: I heard Abu Umamah say: "When you place the purification-water in its places [finish your ablution], you sit forgiven; then if he rises to pray it is for him a merit and a reward, and if he sits, he sits forgiven." A man said to him, "O Abu Umamah, what do you think -- if he rises and prays, is it a supererogatory act for him?" He said: "No; the supererogatory prayer is only for the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him -- how could it be supererogatory for him when he is engaged in sins and wrongs? It is a merit and a reward for him."
