حَدَّثَنَا عَبْد اللَّهِ حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي حَدَّثَنَا سُرَيْجُ بْنُ النُّعْمَانِ وَيُونُسُ قَالَا ثَنَا بَقِيَّةُ بْنُ الْوَلِيدِ عَنِ السَّرِيِّ بْنِ يَنْعُمَ عَنْ مَرِيحِ بْنِ مَسْرُوقٍ عَنْ مُعَاذِ بْنِ جَبَلٍ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ لَمَّا بَعَثَ بِهِ إِلَى الْيَمَنِ قَالَ إِيَّاكَ وَالتَّنَعُّمَ فَإِنَّ عِبَادَ اللَّهِ لَيْسُوا بِالْمُتَنَعِّمِينَ.
English Translation
Abdullah told us, my father told me, Surayj ibn al-Nu'man and Yunus told us - they said, Baqiyyah ibn al-Walid told us, from al-Sari ibn Yan'um, from Marih ibn Masruq, from Mu'adh ibn Jabal, that when the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, sent him to Yemen, he said: "Beware of luxury, for the servants of Allah are not given to luxury."
