حَدَّثَنَا عَبْد اللَّهِ حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي حَدَّثَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ حَدَّثَنَا لَيْثُ بْنُ سَعْدٍ عَنْ مُعَاوِيَةَ بْنِ صَالِحٍ عَنْ رَبِيعَةَ بْنِ يَزِيدَ عَنْ أَبِي إِدْرِيسَ الْخَوْلَانِيِّ عَنْ يَزِيدَ بْنِ عَمِيرَةَ قَالَ لَمَّا حَضَرَ مُعَاذَ بْنَ جَبَلٍ الْمَوْتُ قِيلَ لَهُ يَا أَبَا عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ أَوْصِنَا قَالَ أَجْلِسُونِي فَقَالَ إِنَّ الْعِلْمَ وَالْإِيمَانَ مَكَانَهُمَا مَنْ ابْتَغَاهُمَا وَجَدَهُمَا يَقُولُ ثَلَاثَ مَرَّاتٍ فَالْتَمِسُوا الْعِلْمَ عِنْدَ أَرْبَعَةِ رَهْطٍ عِنْدَ عُوَيْمِرٍ أَبِي الدَّرْدَاءِ وَعِنْدَ سَلْمَانَ الْفَارِسِيِّ وَعِنْدَ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ مَسْعُودٍ وَعِنْدَ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ سَلَامٍ الَّذِي كَانَ يَهُودِيًّا ثُمَّ أَسْلَمَ فَإِنِّي سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ إِنَّهُ عَاشِرُ عَشَرَةٍ فِي الْجَنَّةِ.
English Translation
Abdullah told us, my father told me, Qutaybah ibn Sa'id told us, Layth ibn Sa'd told us, from Mu'awiyah ibn Salih, from Rabi'ah ibn Yazid, from Abu Idris al-Khawlani, from Yazid ibn 'Umayrah, who said: When death approached Mu'adh ibn Jabal, it was said to him, "O Abu Abd al-Rahman, advise us." He said, "Sit me up." Then he said, "Knowledge and faith are in their place; whoever seeks them will find them" - saying this three times - "so seek knowledge from four men: from 'Uwaymir Abu al-Darda', from Salman al-Farisi, from Abdullah ibn Mas'ud, and from Abdullah ibn Salam, who was a Jew and then embraced Islam, for I heard the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, say: 'He is the tenth of ten who are in Paradise.'"
