English Translation

Abd al-Razzaq told us, Sufyan told us, from Sa'id al-Jurayri, from Abu al-Ward — namely Ibn Thumamah — (another chain) and Yazid ibn Harun informed us, al-Jurayri told us, from Abu al-Ward ibn Thumamah, both together, from al-Lajlaj, from Mu'adh ibn Jabal, who said: The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, passed by a man who was saying: O Allah, I ask You for patience. He said: You have asked for trial — ask Allah instead for well-being. And he passed by a man saying: O Allah, I ask You for the completion of Your favor. He said: O son of Adam, do you know what the completion of favor is? He said: A supplication I made, hoping for good through it. He said: The completion of favor is deliverance from the Fire and entry into Paradise. (My father said: Even if al-Jurayri had narrated nothing but this hadith, it would have sufficed.)
