English Translation
Waki' told us: Sufyan told us, from al-A'mash, from Thabit or from Abu Thabit, that a man entered the mosque of Damascus and said: 'O Allah, ease my loneliness, have mercy on my estrangement, and grant me a righteous companion.' Abu al-Darda heard him and said: 'If you are sincere, then I am indeed more fortunate than you in what you said. I heard the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, say concerning [the verse] "Then among them is he who wrongs himself" - meaning the wrongdoer is held to account in that very station of his, and that is the worry and grief - "and among them is he who is moderate" - he said: he will be given an easy reckoning - "and among them is he who is foremost in good deeds by Allah's permission" - he said: those are the ones who enter Paradise without reckoning.'
