حَدَّثَنِي مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْحُسَيْنِ بْنِ أَشْكَابٍ حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ أَبِي عُبَيْدَةَ بْنِ مَعْنٍ حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي عَنِ الْأَعْمَشِ عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ يَزِيدَ قَالَ كَانَ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ يَحُكُّ الْمُعَوِّذَتَيْنِ مِنْ مَصَاحِفِهِ وَيَقُولُ إِنَّهُمَا لَيْسَتَا مِنْ كِتَابِ اللَّهِ تَبَارَكَ وَتَعَالَى قَالَ الْأَعْمَشُ وَحَدَّثَنَا عَاصِمٌ عَنْ زِرٍّ عَنْ أُبَيِّ بْنِ كَعْبٍ قَالَ سَأَلْنَا عَنْهُمَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ فَقِيلَ لِي فَقُلْتُ.
English Translation
Muhammad ibn al-Husayn ibn Ashkab narrated to me: Muhammad ibn Abi Ubaydah ibn Ma'n narrated to us: my father narrated to us, from al-A'mash, from Abu Ishaq, from Abd al-Rahman ibn Yazid, who said: Abdullah used to erase the two protective surahs (al-Mu'awwidhatayn) from his copies of the Qur'an, saying, "They are not part of the Book of Allah, Blessed and Exalted." Al-A'mash said: And Asim narrated to us, from Zirr, from Ubayy ibn Ka'b, who said: We asked the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, about them. He said: then it was said to me, and I said.
