English Translation
Abu Kamil narrated to us: Hammad narrated to us: Simak ibn Harb narrated to us from Jabir ibn Samurah, that when the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, was brought food he would eat from it and send the remainder to Abu Ayyub, and Abu Ayyub would place his fingers where he saw the trace of the fingers of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him. Then a bowl was brought to the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, and he found in it the smell of garlic, so he did not taste it, and he sent it to Abu Ayyub. Abu Ayyub looked and did not see in it the trace of the fingers of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, so he did not taste it either. He went to him and said, "O Messenger of Allah, I did not see the trace of your fingers in it." He said: "I found in it the smell of garlic." He said, "Then do you send to me what you do not eat?" He said: "The angel comes to me." Abdullah narrated to us: I heard some of our companions relate from Ali ibn al-Madini, who said: Sufyan ibn Uyaynah said to me, "Do you have a hadith better than this and with a more excellent chain than this?" He said: I said, "What is it?" He said: Ubaydullah ibn Abi Yazid narrated to me from his father, from Umm Ayyub, that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, stayed with Abu Ayyub, and he related this hadith of the garlic. He said: I said to him, "Yes, Shu'bah from Simak ibn Harb from Jabir ibn Samurah, that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, stayed with Abu Ayyub" - and he fell silent.
