حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ أَخْبَرَنَا سُفْيَانُ عَنِ الْأَعْمَشِ عَنِ الْحَكَمِ عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ أَبِي لَيْلَى عَنْ كَعْبِ بْنِ عُجْرَةَ أَنَّ رَجُلًا قَالَ لِلنَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ قَدْ عَلِمْنَا السَّلَامَ عَلَيْكَ فَكَيْفَ الصَّلَاةُ عَلَيْكَ قَالَ قُولُوا اللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ وَعَلَى آلِ مُحَمَّدٍ كَمَا صَلَّيْتَ عَلَى إِبْرَاهِيمَ إِنَّكَ حَمِيدٌ مَجِيدٌ اللَّهُمَّ بَارِكْ عَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ وَعَلَى آلِ مُحَمَّدٍ كَمَا بَارَكْتَ عَلَى إِبْرَاهِيمَ إِنَّكَ حَمِيدٌ مَجِيدٌ.
English Translation
It was narrated to us by Abd al-Razzaq, who said: it was reported to us by Sufyan, from al-A'mash, from al-Hakam, from Abd al-Rahman ibn Abi Layla, from Ka'b ibn Ujrah, that a man said to the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, "O Messenger of Allah, we already know how to greet you with peace, but how do we invoke blessings upon you?" He said, "Say: O Allah, send blessings upon Muhammad and upon the family of Muhammad, as You sent blessings upon Abraham; indeed You are Praiseworthy, Glorious. O Allah, bless Muhammad and the family of Muhammad, as You blessed Abraham; indeed You are Praiseworthy, Glorious."
