English Translation

Abu al-Mughirah narrated this to us: Hariz narrated to us, saying: Abd al-Rahman ibn Maysarah narrated to me, from Jubayr ibn Nufayr, from Busr ibn Jahhash al-Qurashi, that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, spat one day into his hand and placed his finger upon it, then said: 'Allah, Mighty and Sublime, said: "Sons of Adam, how can you escape Me, when I created you from something like this? Then when I fashioned you and proportioned you, you walked about between two garments, with the earth resounding beneath your tread; then you gathered and withheld, until when your soul reached your collarbones, you said: 'I will give in charity' — but what time is there now for charity?"' Abu al-Yaman narrated to us, saying: Hariz narrated to us, from Abd al-Rahman — namely Ibn Maysarah — from Jubayr ibn Nufayr, from Busr ibn Jahhash al-Qurashi, and he related it, but did not say 'Allah, Mighty and Sublime, said,' nor did he say 'but what time is there now for charity.'
