English Translation
Ali ibn Bahr told us, saying: Isa ibn Yunus told us, saying: Thawr ibn Yazid told me: Abu Humayd al-Ru'ayni told me, saying: Yazid Dhu Misr informed me, saying: I came to Utbah ibn Abd al-Sulami and said, 'O Abu al-Walid, I went out searching for sacrificial animals but found nothing that pleased me except one with a broken front tooth. What do you say?' He said, 'Why did you not bring it to me?' I said, 'Glory be to God! It is permissible for you but not for me?' He said, 'Yes, for you are in doubt, while I am not in doubt. The Messenger of God, peace and blessings be upon him, only forbade al-musaffarah, al-musta'salah whose horn is uprooted from its root, al-bakhqa', and al-mushayya'ah. Al-musaffarah is the one whose ear is cut off entirely until its inner ear is exposed; al-musta'salah is the one whose horn is torn out from its root; al-bakhqa' is the one whose eye is gouged out; and al-mushayya'ah is the one that cannot keep up with the flock due to emaciation, weakness, and incapacity. And al-kasra' is the one that has no marrow left (from thinness).' My father said: Ahmad ibn Janab also told me: Isa ibn Yunus told us, and he mentioned something similar.
