حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ حَدَّثَنِي يُونُسُ بْنُ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ عَنْ خَيْثَمَةَ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ عَنْ أَبِيهِ قَالَ كَانَ اسْمُ أَبِي فِي الْجَاهِلِيَّةِ عَزِيزًا فَسَمَّاهُ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَبْدَ الرَّحْمَنِ.
English Translation
Waki' told us, Yunus ibn Abi Ishaq told me, from Khaythamah ibn Abdul Rahman, from his father, who said: My father's name during the Jahiliyyah (pre-Islamic era) was Aziz, so the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, named him Abdul Rahman.
