حَدَّثَنَا حَسَنٌ حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ لَهِيعَةَ حَدَّثَنِي أَبُو عُشَّانَةَ أَنَّ سُفْيَانَ بْنَ وَهْبٍ الْخَوْلَانِيَّ حَدَّثَهُ أَنَّهُ كَانَ تَحْتَ ظِلِّ رَاحِلَةِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَوْمَ حَجَّةِ الْوَدَاعِ أَوْ أَنَّ رَجُلًا حَدَّثَهُ ذَلِكَ وَرَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَخْطُبُ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ هَلْ بَلَّغْتُ فَظَنَنَّا أَنَّهُ يُرِيدُنَا فَقُلْنَا نَعَمْ ثُمَّ أَعَادَهُ ثَلَاثَ مَرَّاتٍ وَقَالَ فِيمَا يَقُولُ رَوْحَةٌ فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ خَيْرٌ مِنْ الدُّنْيَا وَمَا عَلَيْهَا وَغَدْوَةٌ فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ خَيْرٌ مِنْ الدُّنْيَا وَمَا عَلَيْهَا وَإِنَّ الْمُؤْمِنَ عَلَى الْمُؤْمِنِ حَرَامٌ عِرْضُهُ وَمَالُهُ وَنَفْسُهُ حُرْمَةٌ كَحُرْمَةِ هَذَا الْيَوْمِ.
English Translation
Hasan narrated to us, Ibn Lahi'ah narrated to us, Abu Ushanah narrated to me, that Sufyan ibn Wahb al-Khawlani narrated to him that he was under the shade of the mount of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, on the day of the Farewell Pilgrimage - or that a man narrated that to him - while the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, was delivering a sermon. The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: Have I conveyed the message? We thought he meant us, so we said: Yes. Then he repeated it three times, and among what he said was: An afternoon journey in the way of Allah is better than the world and all that is in it, and a morning journey in the way of Allah is better than the world and all that is in it. And indeed the believer's honor, wealth, and life are forbidden to another believer, sacred like the sanctity of this day.
