حَدَّثَنَا حَيْوَةُ بْنُ شُرَيْحٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا بَقِيَّةُ حَدَّثَنَا بَحِيرُ بْنُ سَعْدٍ عَنْ خَالِدِ بْنِ مَعْدَانَ عَنْ جُبَيْرِ بْنِ نُفَيْرٍ عَنْ عُقْبَةَ بْنِ عَامِرٍ أَنَّهُ قَالَ إِنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أُهْدِيَتْ لَهُ بَغْلَةٌ شَهْبَاءُ فَرَكِبَهَا فَأَخَذَ عُقْبَةُ يَقُودُهَا فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ لِعُقْبَةَ اقْرَأْ فَقَالَ وَمَا أَقْرَأُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ قَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ اقْرَأْ قُلْ أَعُوذُ بِرَبِّ الْفَلَقِ فَأَعَادَهَا عَلَيْهِ حَتَّى قَرَأَهَا فَعَرَفَ أَنِّي لَمْ أَفْرَحْ بِهَا جِدًّا فَقَالَ لَعَلَّكَ تَهَاوَنْتَ بِهَا فَمَا قُمْتَ تُصَلِّي بِشَيْءٍ مِثْلِهَا.
English Translation
Hayat ibn Shurayh narrated to us, he said: Baqiyyah narrated to us, Bahir ibn Sa'd narrated to us, from Khalid ibn Ma'dan, from Jubayr ibn Nufayr, from 'Uqbah ibn 'Amir, who said: A gray mule was presented as a gift to the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, and he rode it, and 'Uqbah took to leading it. The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said to 'Uqbah, "Recite." He said, "And what shall I recite, O Messenger of Allah?" The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said, "Recite 'Say: I seek refuge in the Lord of daybreak.'" So he repeated it to him until he recited it, and he realized that I had not shown great joy over it, so he said, "Perhaps you thought little of it - you will never stand praying with anything like it."
