English Translation
Muhammad ibn Bakr told us: Abd al-Hamid — that is, Ibn Ja'far — told us, saying: al-Aswad ibn al-Ala' told me, from Huwayy, freedman of Sulayman ibn Abd al-Malik, from a man to whom Umar ibn Abd al-Aziz — while he was Commander of the Faithful — sent, saying: "How does the hadith go that you told me from al-Sunabihi?" He said: al-Sunabihi informed me that he met Amr ibn Abasah and said: "Is there any hadith from the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, with no addition and no omission?" He said: "Yes — I heard the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, say: 'Whoever frees a slave, Allah frees, for every limb of it, a limb of him from the Fire; and whoever shoots an arrow in the way of Allah, whether it reaches (the target) or falls short, it is the equivalent of (freeing) a slave; and whoever turns gray with a gray hair in the way of Allah, it will be a light for him on the Day of Resurrection.'"
