حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ يَزِيدَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ يَعْنِي ابْنَ أَبِي أَيُّوبَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَجْلَانَ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ النَّضْرَ بْنَ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ يَقُولُ سَمِعْتُ وَاثِلَةَ بْنَ الْأَسْقَعِ يَقُولُ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَعْظَمُ الْفِرَى مَنْ يُقَوِّلُنِي مَا لَمْ أَقُلْ وَمَنْ أَرَى عَيْنَيْهِ فِي الْمَنَامِ مَا لَمْ تَرَيَا وَمَنْ ادَّعَى إِلَى غَيْرِ أَبِيهِ.
English Translation
Abdullah ibn Yazid told us, saying: Sa'id — that is, Ibn Abi Ayyub — told us, saying: Muhammad ibn Ajlan told me, saying: I heard al-Nadr ibn Abd al-Rahman ibn Abdullah say: I heard Wathilah ibn al-Asqa' say: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "The greatest of fabrications is one who attributes to me what I did not say, one who claims his eyes saw in a dream what they did not see, and one who is attributed to other than his (true) father."
