حَدَّثَنَا سُلَيْمَانُ بْنُ دَاوُدَ أَبُو دَاوُدَ الطَّيَالِسِيُّ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنَا عِمْرَانُ الْقَطَّانُ عَنْ قَتَادَةَ عَنْ أَبِي الْمَلِيحِ الْهُذَلِيِّ عَنْ وَاثِلَةَ بْنِ الْأَسْقَعِ أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ أُعْطِيتُ مَكَانَ التَّوْرَاةِ السَّبْعَ وَأُعْطِيتُ مَكَانَ الزَّبُورِ الْمَئِينَ وَأُعْطِيتُ مَكَانَ الْإِنْجِيلِ الْمَثَانِيَ وَفُضِّلْتُ بِالْمُفَصَّلِ.
English Translation
Sulayman ibn Dawud Abu Dawud al-Tayalisi told us, saying: Imran al-Qattan informed us, from Qatadah, from Abu al-Malih al-Hudhali, from Wathilah ibn al-Asqa', that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "I was given, in place of the Torah, the seven long surahs; I was given, in place of the Psalms, the surahs of a hundred or so verses; I was given, in place of the Gospel, the frequently repeated surahs; and I was favored with the detailed (short) surahs."
