قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا حَفْصُ بنُ غِيَاثٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا دَاوُدُ بْنُ أَبِي هِنْدٍ عَنِ الشَّعْبِيِّ عَنْ أَبِي جَبِيرَةَ بْنِ الضَّحَّاكِ الْأَنْصَارِيِّ عَنْ عُمُومَةٍ لَهُ قَدِمَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَلَيْسَ أَحَدٌ مِنَّا إِلَّا لَهُ لَقَبٌ أَوْ لَقَبَانِ قَالَ فَكَانَ إِذَا دَعَا بِلَقَبِهِ قُلْنَا يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنَّ هَذَا يَكْرَهُ هَذَا قَالَ فَنَزَلَتْ { وَلَا تَنَابَزُوا بِالْأَلْقَابِ }.
English Translation
He said: Hafs ibn Ghiyath narrated to us, he said: Dawud ibn Abi Hind narrated to us, from al-Sha'bi, from Abu Jabirah ibn al-Dahhak al-Ansari, from some of his paternal uncles: when the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, arrived, there was not one of us but had a nickname or two. He said: So when he called someone by his nickname, we would say, "O Messenger of God, he dislikes that." He said: Then there was revealed: {And do not insult one another with nicknames}.
