قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا حَجَّاجٌ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا لَيْثٌ يَعْنِي ابْنَ سَعْدٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي يَزِيدُ بْنُ أَبِي حَبِيبٍ عَنْ بُكَيْرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ الْأَشَجِّ عَنْ سُلَيْمَانَ بْنِ يَسَارٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ جَابِرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ عَنْ أَبِي بُرْدَةَ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَانَ يَقُولُ لَا يُجْلَدُ فَوْقَ عَشْرِ جَلَدَاتٍ إِلَّا فِي حَدٍّ مِنْ حُدُودِ اللَّهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ.
English Translation
He said: Hajjaj narrated to us, who said: Layth - meaning Ibn Sa'd - narrated to us, who said: Yazid ibn Abi Habib narrated to me, from Bukayr ibn 'Abdullah ibn al-Ashajj, from Sulayman ibn Yasar, from 'Abd al-Rahman ibn Jabir ibn 'Abdullah, from Abu Burdah, that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, used to say: "No one is to be flogged more than ten lashes, except in a matter concerning one of the prescribed punishments of Allah, Mighty and Majestic."
