English Translation

'Affan told us: Aban told us: Qatadah told us: Mutarrif ibn 'Abd Allah told us that his father told him, saying: I was brought before the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, while he was reciting this surah, 'Rivalry in worldly increase distracts you' — and he mentioned the same, exactly, without Qatadah's added remark, that is, like the hadith of Hammam. 'Abd Allah ibn Muhammad told us — 'Abd Allah said: and I myself heard it from 'Abd Allah ibn Muhammad ibn Abi Shaybah — who said: Zayd ibn al-Hubab told us, from Shaddad ibn Sa'id Abu Talhah al-Rasibi, who said: Ghaylan ibn Jarir told me, from Mutarrif ibn 'Abd Allah ibn al-Shikhkhir, from his father, who said: I came to the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, while he was praying seated or standing, reciting 'Rivalry in worldly increase distracts you' until he completed it.
