حَدَّثَنَا مَعْمَرُ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ الرَّقِّيُّ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا الْحَجَّاجُ عَنْ فُرَاتِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ وَهُوَ فُرَاتٌ الْقَزَّازُ عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ جُبَيْرٍ قَالَ كُنْتُ جَالِسًا عِنْدَ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُتْبَةَ بْنِ مَسْعُودٍ وَكَانَ ابْنُ الزُّبَيْرِ جَعَلَهُ عَلَى الْقَضَاءِ إِذْ جَاءَهُ كِتَابُ ابْنِ الزُّبَيْرِ سَلَامٌ عَلَيْكَ أَمَّا بَعْدُ فَإِنَّكَ كَتَبْتَ تَسْأَلُنِي عَنْ الْجَدِّ وَإِنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ لَوْ كُنْتُ مُتَّخِذًا مِنْ هَذِهِ الْأُمَّةِ خَلِيلًا دُونَ رَبِّي عَزَّ وَجَلَّ لَاتَّخَذْتُ ابْنَ أَبِي قُحَافَةَ وَلَكِنَّهُ أَخِي فِي الدِّينِ وَصَاحِبِي فِي الْغَارِ جَعَلَ الْجَدَّ أَبًا وَأَحَقُّ مَا أَخَذْنَاهُ قَوْلُ أَبِي بَكْرٍ الصِّدِّيقِ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ.
English Translation
Ma'mar ibn Sulayman ar-Raqqi told us, he said: al-Hajjaj told us, from Furat ibn Abdullah — who is Furat al-Qazzaz — from Sa'id ibn Jubayr, who said: I was sitting with Abdullah ibn Utbah ibn Mas'ud, whom Ibn az-Zubayr had appointed over the judiciary, when a letter from Ibn az-Zubayr came to him: "Peace be upon you. To proceed: You wrote to ask me about the [inheritance ruling for the] grandfather. Indeed the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: 'Had I taken from this nation a close friend besides my Lord, Mighty and Majestic is He, I would have taken Ibn Abi Quhafah, but he is my brother in religion and my companion in the cave.' He made the grandfather [inherit] as a father, and the most rightful [ruling] that we have adopted is the saying of Abu Bakr as-Siddiq, may Allah be pleased with him."
