حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الْيَمَانِ أَخْبَرَنَا شُعَيْبٌ عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ أَخْبَرَنِي عُرْوَةُ بْنُ الزُّبَيْرِ أَنَّ هِشَامَ بْنَ حَكِيمِ بْنِ حِزَامٍ وَجَدَ عِيَاضَ بْنَ غَنْمٍ وَهُوَ عَلَى حِمْصَ يُشَمِّسُ نَاسًا مِنْ النَّبَطِ فِي أَدَاءِ الْجِزْيَةِ فَقَالَ لَهُ هِشَامٌ مَا هَذَا يَا عِيَاضُ إِنِّي سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ إِنَّ اللَّهَ تَبَارَكَ وَتَعَالَى يُعَذِّبُ الَّذِينَ يُعَذِّبُونَ النَّاسَ فِي الدُّنْيَا.
English Translation
Abu al-Yaman told us: Shu'ayb informed us, from al-Zuhri: Urwah ibn al-Zubayr informed me, that Hisham ibn Hakim ibn Hizam found Iyad ibn Ghanam, while he was over Homs, making some Nabataeans stand in the sun over payment of the jizyah. Hisham said to him, "What is this, O Iyad? I heard the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, say: Allah, Blessed and Exalted, punishes those who punish people in this world."
