حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ بْنُ هَارُونَ حَدَّثَنَا هِشَامُ بْنُ حَسَّانَ عَنِ الْحَسَنِ عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِذَا كُنْتُمْ فِي الْخِصْبِ فَأَمْكِنُوا الرَّكْبَ أَسِنَّتَهَا وَلَا تَعْدُوا الْمَنَازِلَ وَإِذَا كُنْتُمْ فِي الْجَدْبِ فَاسْتَنْجُوا وَعَلَيْكُمْ بِالدُّلْجَةِ فَإِنَّ الْأَرْضَ تُطْوَى بِاللَّيْلِ فَإِذَا تَغَوَّلَتْ بِكُمْ الْغِيلَانُ فَبَادِرُوا بِالْأَذَانِ وَلَا تُصَلُّوا عَلَى جَوَادِ الطُّرُقِ وَلَا تَنْزِلُوا عَلَيْهَا فَإِنَّهَا مَأْوَى الْحَيَّاتِ وَالسِّبَاعِ وَلَا تَقْضُوا عَلَيْهَا الْحَوَائِجَ فَإِنَّهَا الْمَلَاعِنُ.
English Translation
Yazid ibn Harun told us, Hisham ibn Hassan told us, from al-Hasan, from Jabir ibn Abdullah, who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: When you are in a fertile land, give the riding beasts their fill of forage and do not exceed the stages of travel; and when you are in a barren land, hasten along and press on with night travel, for the earth is traversed swiftly at night. And if the ghouls try to bewitch you, hasten to give the call to prayer. Do not pray on the main roads, nor camp on them, for they are the haunts of snakes and predators, and do not relieve yourselves upon them, for they are places of cursing.
