English Translation
Abu Ahmad Muhammad ibn Abdullah - meaning al-Zubayri - told us, Ma'qil - meaning Ibn Ubaydullah al-Jazari - told us, from Ata', from Jabir ibn Abdullah, who said: We went out with the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, as pilgrims, intending nothing but Hajj and having no other intention, until, when we reached Sarif, Aisha menstruated. The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, came in to her while she was crying, and said: What makes you cry? She said: O Messenger of Allah, this affliction has come upon me. He said: You are but one of the daughters of Adam; what befalls them befalls you. He said: We arrived at the Kaaba when four days or nights had passed of Dhu al-Hijjah, and we circled the House and went between al-Safa and al-Marwah. Then the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, ordered us, and we exited consecration completely. He said: We discussed it among ourselves, saying: We set out as pilgrims, intending nothing but Hajj and having no other intention, and now, with only four days or nights left before Arafat, we go out to Arafat with the traces of intercourse with our wives still upon us. This reached the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, and he stood to deliver a sermon, saying: Indeed, the umrah has been included within Hajj. If I could go back and redo what I have already done, I would not have brought the sacrificial animal, and were it not for the sacrificial animal, I would have exited consecration. So whoever does not have a sacrificial animal with him, let him exit consecration. Suraqah ibn Malik ibn Ju'shum stood and said: O Messenger of Allah, tell us the ruling for this - as though we were born today - is it for this year of ours only, or forever? He said: No, rather forever. He said: We came to Arafat and departed from it. Then Aisha said: O Messenger of Allah, I feel within myself unease, for they have performed the umrah fully. He said: You shall have the same as they have. She said: O Messenger of Allah, I feel within myself... So he stopped at the top of the valley of Makkah and ordered her brother Abd al-Rahman ibn Abi Bakr to take her behind him on his mount, until she reached al-Tan'im, then she came back.
