English Translation

Abidah told us, al-Aswad told me, from Nubayh al-Anazi, from Jabir ibn Abdullah, who said: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said to me: "O Jabir, do you have a wife?" I said: "Yes." He said: "Did you marry a previously married woman or a virgin?" I said to him: "I married her and she is a previously married woman." He said to me: "Why didn't you marry a young virgin?" I said to him: "My father was killed with you on such-and-such a day, and he left behind young women, so I disliked bringing in another young girl to join them like one of them. So I married a previously married woman who could delouse one of them and mend the garment of one of them when it tears." The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "You have indeed chosen well."
