حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الْمُغِيرَةِ حَدَّثَنَا الْأَوْزَاعِيُّ حَدَّثَنِي يَحْيَى بْنُ أَبِي كَثِيرٍ حَدَّثَنِي عُبَيْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مِقْسَمٍ حَدَّثَنِي جَابِرُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ قَالَ كُنَّا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَمَرَّتْ بِنَا جَنَازَةٌ فَقَامَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَقُمْنَا مَعَهُ فَذَهَبْنَا لِنَحْمِلَهَا إِذَا هِيَ جَنَازَةُ يَهُودِيَّةٍ فَقُلْنَا يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنَّهَا جَنَازَةُ يَهُودِيَّةٍ قَالَ إِنَّ لِلْمَوْتِ فَزَعًا فَإِذَا رَأَيْتُمْ الْجِنَازَةَ فَقُومُوا لَهَا.
English Translation
Abu al-Mughirah told us, al-Awza'i told us, Yahya ibn Abi Kathir told me, Ubaydullah ibn Miqsam told me, Jabir ibn Abdullah told me, who said: We were with the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, when a funeral bier passed by us. The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, stood up, and we stood up with him. We went to carry it, only to find it was the bier of a Jewish woman. We said: "O Messenger of Allah, it is the bier of a Jewish woman." He said: "Death is a terrifying event; so when you see a funeral bier, stand up for it."
