حَدَّثَنَا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ وَعَلِيُّ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ قَالَا حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ الْمُبَارَكِ عَنْ عُتْبَةَ وَقَالَ عَلِيٌّ أَنْبَأَنَا عُتْبَةُ بْنُ أَبِي حَكِيمٍ حَدَّثَنِي حُصَيْنُ بْنُ حَرْمَلَةَ عَنْ أَبِي مُصَبِّحٍ عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ الْخَيْلُ مَعْقُودٌ فِي نَوَاصِيهَا الْخَيْرُ وَالنَّيْلُ إِلَى يَوْمِ الْقِيَامَةِ وَأَهْلُهَا مُعَانُونَ عَلَيْهَا فَامْسَحُوا بِنَوَاصِيهَا وَادْعُوا لَهَا بِالْبَرَكَةِ وَقَلِّدُوهَا وَلَا تُقَلِّدُوهَا بِالْأَوْتَارِ وَقَالَ عَلِيٌّ وَلَا تُقَلِّدُوهَا الْأَوْتَارَ.
English Translation
Ibrahim ibn Ishaq and Ali ibn Ishaq told us, they said: Ibn al-Mubarak told us, from Utbah - and Ali said: Utbah ibn Abi Hakim informed us - Husayn ibn Harmalah told me, from Abu Musabbih, from Jabir ibn Abdullah, who said: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Good is tied in the forelocks of horses until the Day of Resurrection, and their owners are aided through them. So wipe their forelocks, pray for blessing upon them, and hang [ornaments] on them, but do not hang bowstrings on them" - and Ali said: "do not hang bowstrings on them."
